Spring Training is here!

Hendersonville, Tn After a long, I mean a really long off-season the 2012 season officially got it's start yesterday with the start of Spring Training.  The Hitmen enter camp with 2 new SP, 2 new MR and 4 new bats in the lineup  along with some rookies and vets battling to make the 25-man roster.
The 2012 spring training schedule includes N.F., Sac, Baf, NY, Som, LA, Edi, Maui, El Paso, Quebec, Jax and Orl.  H'ville opens spring training vs the defending World Series Champions who shocked the world and upset the Hitmen in 5 games. Despite the relocation, new name and a slight roster overhaul the JJ Hoban lead Frenzy will be a tough opponent

Game 1 Recap: The 2x reigning Boardman Award winner, Scott Hill got the start to open spring training and did so with a 4 pitch walk to Powers. Hill shook off some of the off-season "rust" and went on to pitch 4.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, struck out 6 and walked 2. The bullpen shutdown the Frenzy striking out 9 of 15 possible outs while not giving up a run in the last 5 innings.
The offense got started with a lead off Solo HR by 2B P. Valdéz and collected 2 more runs in the 1st innings before being shutout the rest of the way. Despite getting the win the offense struggled by hitting into 3 double plays and was thrown out twice stealing.
Rookie 3B Vicente. Salgado had a good day going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a RBI.

Game 2 Recap: There is not a lot of excitement in the preseason when two of the top teams matchup, but that doesn't mean it wasn't dull.  Things got a little dicey in the bottom of the 3rd when Sac SP D. Lewis gave up 5 straight hits netting 3 runs and RF John Prowse at the plate.  It looked like Lewis looked towards the Sac dugout to get a sign and on the very first pitch he drilled Prowse in the shoulder with a high heater.   Prowse simply tossed his bat and took his base, but the real drama started when Lewis got the same sign for the dugout once again and then drilled rookie 3B Vincente Salgado. The hot headed rook pointed his bat up at Lewis while yelling in Spanish as he walked towards the mound. Salgado was restrained before the situation got out of hand.
The Hitmen came away with the meaningless win but the regular season matchup in H'ville April 19-22 just got a lot more interesting.

The big highlight of the game was newly acquired CF Luis Padilla monster 456 ft HR to dead center.  MR Karl Cruise took the loss as he had a horrible day walking 7 before he finally got rocked in the top of the 12th.  2B Pedro Valdéz got his 2nd HR of the spring with a 2-run shot in the bottom of the 12, but that was all the Hitmen could come up with and fell 7-4.
