Jacksonville Series Recap: Battle for the Division Lead

Hendersonville, Tn  - H'ville is starting to hit their stride now.  After taking 2 out of 3 from Sacramento they are 8-2 in their last 10 games and welcome in the Jacksonville Jackhammers.  Jax started out hot and lead the Ford Division for most of the month but are 5-5 in their last 10 and lost 2 of 3 to San Fran entering this series.

Game 1 Recap:  DH Manny Copriviza it hit his 2nd 3-run HR (5) in as many days to give the Hitmen a 4-1 lead, but it didn't last long.  SP Art Ellis pitched a brilliant 6.2 innings, but after striking out the first two hitters in the 7th Ellis gave up a 3-run HR to 2B Luis Pezina to tie the game up at 4.  Newly acquired CL Aubrey Colcheeper pitched a perfect 9th innings striking out 2 to get his 7th save of the year.

Game 2 Recap: The Hitmen bounced back from yesterdays lost with a good ole beat down.  The offense scored 11 runs on 15 hits with 7 of them being extra base hits.  The 6-9 hitters had a field day at the plate today going 10-18 with 1 HR, 3 3B's and 9 RBIs.  Rookie 3B Vicente "Hidden Ball" Salgado went 2-5, 3B and 4 RBI's while fellow rookie SS Alonso Pérez went 3-5, HR (3), 3 RBI and 3 R.  DH Manny Copriviza extended his HR streak to 3 straight games with solo shot in the 3rd inning.  SP Mal "Shelled" Windham pitched a shutout into the 8th inning before making his only mistake resulting in a 3-run HR.  Windham stayed in and got the complete game victory.

Game 3 Recap: After getting absolutely rocked in his last start Nam-cheol "Million Dollar" Chong finally had a good outing.  Chong pitched a strong 8.0, 1 ER, 7 K, 0 BB and 6 H for his first win of the year.  The Hitmen's offense continues to come from the young kids as LF Tomás Hernández has a big day going 2-4, HR (3), 3B (3), 3 RBI and 2 R.  Rookie CF Luis Padilla hits his 4th HR of the year and knocks in 3.

Game 4 Recap: The offense continued it's hot hitting with a 14 hit performance.  DH Manny Copriviza's gave the Hitmen a 3-2 lead when hit a 2-run shot in the 3rd.  It was Copriviza's 4th HR (7) in 5 games.  An Error in the top of the 8th lead to 3 unearned runs for Jax and blew the lead.  With bases loaded Jax RF George Alston hit a 3-2, 2-out pitch into the gap to empty the bases.  Tied at 5-5 and facing Jax's shutdown CL Aubrey "Chisel" Colcheeper the Hitmen looked to win it in walk-off fashion.  With 1-out CF Padilla walked, RF Prowse got HBP and then 1B Green single to load the bases and setup the the red hot Manny Copriviza for the win. After going down 0-2, Copriviza fought off a couple pitches before singling back up the middle to score Padilla for the walk-off win. 



Series MVP: DH Manny Copriviza hit .278 (5-18), 3 HR (7), 7 RBI, 4 R scored and 1 walk-off hit


Injury: No new injuries
LF Gregg Burkholder (fractured foot, out for 2 more days).


Notes:
- 1B Tommy Green won ML Batter of the Week for April 16-22:  .462 (12-26), 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.
-DH Manny Copriviza is hitting .296, 4 HR, 11 RBIs, 6 Runs in last 7 games
- LF Tomás Hernández hit .467 (7-15), HR, 3 3Bs, 4 RBIs and 2 SB in Jax series
