H'ville, Tn - Mid way through July the Hitmen find themselves in very unfamiliar waters. In the midst of a slump spanning the last 31 games the Hitmen are a sub .500 14-17!!! This is the worst stretch in the franchises history.
After the first week of June the Hitmen were 7-2 after taking 2 of 3 from Los Angeles Bruins, swept Baffin Island Beavers in 3 games then took 2 of 3 from the Trillian's best Pocatello Boccabellas. Then the wheels feel off and the offense dissappeared. Over the last 31 games the offense has been shutout 4 times (all Scott Hill starts) and has scored 3 or fewer runs in 14 games.
During this losing stretch the Hitmen have played 21 of those 31 games on the road going 8-12, losing 5 of the 7 road series and the last 3 straight road series. So far this season the Hitmen are 24-24 (.500) on the road while at home they are a VBL6 best 34-13 (.723).
The rest of the month doesn't look to get any easier for the Hitmen as they have 2 more vs Jacksonville Jackhammers then hit the road again for back-2-back road series vs New Orleans Looters and then head to Haddonfield to face the Trillian League's best offense the Haddonfield Hackers.
The only home series left this month isn't an easy on either as VBL6's best overall record team the Pittsburgh Pirates bring the Trillian League's #1 pitching team to H'ville. It's highly unlikely that the Hitmen will still have the best record in the Marvin League at this point which would have matched up the two leagues top teams. It's to bad the Hitmen are slumping while the Pirates are playing the best baseball in VBL6 also, but regardless this should be a good series to watch.
My Predictions for the rest of the month: 6-6 - I would be very PLESED with 6 wins the way I have played
vs Jacksonville Jackhammers 1-1
at New Orleans Looters 3-1
at Haddonfield Hackers 1-2
vs Pittsburgh Pirates 1-2
July PR: 2 of 4
