H'ville's All-Star Game Recap

H'ville, Tn (AP) - The mid-summer classic has come and gone with another win by the National League.  This marks the 4th straight All-Star game won by the National League meaning they have gained home field advantage once again.  This year is the first year the game has gone into extra innings (I think) adding a little more drama to the series.
Also for the 4th straight year the Hitmen have had the honor of having one of their SP start the All-Star game for the ML/NL.  The Hitmen lead all of BSA for the 4th straight year with 8 All-Star appearances this year for the 2013 All-Star game.  This year's roster of Hitmen had some new names, some familiar names and a surprise or two.

The Hitmen ended up with 2 All-Star starters in the field with 1st year Hitman Masanobu Hasegawa getting his 2nd All-Star appearance, but first for the Hitmen.  Last year he was the starter at 3B for the TL.  Hasewaga went 1-2 with a single in his first AB and a flyout in his 2nd AB.

LF Gregg Burkholder got his 2nd All-Star appearance (2010, 2013) after not making it the last 2 years.  Burkholder got the starting nod due to voted in started Boston's LF Ken Boone being injured.  Burkholder lead off the game with a triple, but was left stranded as Cole, Rivas and Warner all failed to push him across in the 1st. In the 3rd he was walked then doubled up on a Cole grounder.  In the 5th he reached base for the 3rd straight time when he was hit by a pitch and then stole second.  Cole finally came up with a hit and Burkholder score on his double.

1B/DH Manny "The Cobra" Copriviza got his 1st All-Star appearance after being snubbed last year.  In his first career All-Star AB he walked in the 7th and then came up in the bottom of the 9th with Oglethorpe on 1st representing the winning run, but struckout sending the game to extra innings.

1st year Hitman C Jesus "Dirty" Hernández game off the DL the day of the All-Star game to make his first All-Star game despite missing the last 6 weeks with a fractured cheekbone.  You would think he would be rusty, but "Dirty" actually played a key role in the game.  In his first AB he singled in the 6th on an 0-2 pitch and later came around to score on Cash's double.  In the 7th he ended a rally by hitting into a 1-6-3 DP, but came back in the bottom of the 10th with a huge double and then scored the games winning run scoring from 2nd on a throwing CL's 2B Edwards.

On the pitching side of the game Scott "The Franchise" Hill maked his 2nd career All-Star game start but didn't fair very well.  Entering the game in a major slump Hill got in a hole early.  A lead off double followed by two singles and a ground out put the NL in a 2-0 hole.  Hill finished with 2 ER on 3 Hits in 2.0 innings, but did strikeout 3 and walked none.

Down 3-0 Carlos Arévalo came in in the bottom of the 4th and pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning getting Regina's LF Burrill to fly out, Denver's 2B Maccioni to ground out and Haddonfield's SS Jackson to strikeout on 3 pitches.

Up 4-6 in the 7th SU man Alfredo "Last Resort" González set down the first two batter then came 1 pitch away from a perfect inning, but was denied that as Pitt's 1B Ernesto Román hit a 0-2 pitch 417 feet to make it a 5-6 game.

The 8th and final member of the Hitmen's All-Star roster was SP Walter "The Claw" Bamber. Bamber didn't get into the game due to pitching right before the All-Star break.  It was his 2nd straight All-Star game as he was the starter in last year's game.
