August Sim: Quebec Series

H'ville, Tn (AP) - After a rough July the Hitmen have bounced back nicely in August taking 2 of 3 from the Los Angeles Bruins in LA then sweeping a 4-game series vs division foe Jacksonville Jackhammers.  Hot off of that sweep and riding a 5-game winning streak the Hitmen welcomed in the Quebec Les Capitales for a 3-game weekend series.

Game 1 Recap:  The Hitmen jumped out to an early lead after catcher "Dirty" Hernández hit a monstrous 449-ft HR to CF.  In his 2nd AB "Dirty" hit his 2nd solo HR of the game (19th and 20th) to break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 5th.  That would be all Bamber need to get his 14th win allowing 2 ER in 5.2 innings and striking out 6.

Game 2 Recap:  Quebec Ace Reginald Krause looked the part has he had a 1-0 lead after 7 shutout innings, but it could have been more.  After former Les Capitales MR Oliver Donahue comes in and strikes out all 4 batters he faced, SU Alfredo González comes in the top of the 8th and walks the leadoff guy, a SB and single later and we have a play at the plate.  LF Gregg Burkholder comes up firing to home and guns down the insurance runner.  Sure enough the first batter Krause faces 1B José Álvarez pulls a fastball down the RF line tied the game up 1-1 in the bottom of the 8th. Not done with the heroics Burkholder with 2-outs in the bottom of the 9th hits a no doubter to deep center field for a walk-off HR.  Burgess got the ND despite a beautiful 8 K, 1 ER, 5.2 inning performance.

Game 3 Recap:  Looking for the sweep in game three the Hitmen jumped out to an early lead with a 2-run 1st inning.  A baserunning mistake by rookie CF Luis Rodríguez trying to go from 1st to 3rd on a shallow single cost the Hitmen a chance at a bigger inning.  Heading into the 9th with a 2-1 lead was all but a sure victory for H'ville.  CL Tommy "Flash" Smith quickly put away the first two batters, but a single and then a line drive 2-run HR by CF Jeff Lott gave the Les Capitales a 3-2 lead and win.  The HR allowed by "Flash" was only the 2nd HR allowed all season and the first since April!  Art Ellis misses out on a win despite a great 6.0, 5 H, 1 ER, 8 K performance.
