NCAA Spotlight: Armando "K-Squad" Perez

Georgetown University (AP) - Kevin, much like Bill with his spec lottery, spoiled my NCAA spotlight with his tweet earlier today "A very, very sexy Hoya Saxa.  Look at his super sexy player history".  Honestly I'm shocked Kevin (G-Town alum) hasn't been touting this kid before this.

"K-Squad"
Armando "K-Squad" Perez has been on my shortlist since he joined the Hoyas last year as a 19-year old freshman from Baruta (Miranda), Venezuelan.  At 6'7, 225 lbs the kid is a right handed version of Randy Johnson.

As a Freshman, "K-Squad" went 4-2 with a 1.88 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 1.20 FIP, 5.5 WAR, 14.4 K/9 (13th all-time),  115 K's (7th best single season) to an amazing 17 BB's in only 71.2 IP and 12 GS.

You can't get any better than that right?  Well, you would guess not likely but "K-Squad" has done just that.  No Sophomore slump here as Perez has quite possibly had the single most dominating season going 7-4, 1.43 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 0.24 FIP (that's f'n insane!!), 127 K's (2nd best single season) to only 11 BB's in 69.1 IP!!!  His 16.5 K/9 is a NCAA record!  He has recorded a mind boggling 61% of his out via strikeout!  His 5.5 WAR is a NCAA record (4.9 was old record). Just imagine what "K-Squad" could have done if he didn't have a .342 BABIP.

With two more years to go Perez should go down as the greatest strikeout pitcher in NCAA history.  There could be a chance that he comes out early next year, but regardless this kid looks to be a future ace in the BSA.  He is one of the few NCAA SP in OOTP 12 that throws more than 2 pitches.  He has a very good cutter and slightly above average curveball, changeup and average splitter.  He has good stamina (13), great GB% (65%) and throws hard (95-97 mph).
